Postal and Kelme reach accord on Heras
The U.S. Postal team and the management of Kelme have settled their differences over payment terms for the remainder of Spanish rider Roberto Heras’s contract, Kelme’s manager told the French wire service AFP on Tuesday. The U.S. Postal team and the management of Kelme have settled their differences over payment terms for the remainder of Spanish rider Roberto Heras’s contract, Kelme’s manager told the French wire service AFP on Tuesday.
The U.S. Postal, led by two-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, bought out Heras’ contract with the Spanish team which had been due to expire in 2002, Juan Mas said.
Heras had been due to join US Postal last October but the two teams had been unable to agree terms.
Last month, Kelme announced Heras would be staying at the Spanish team for the upcoming season, a point disputed by Heras himself. The issue was the subject of continued negotiations, as well as an appeal to UCI president Hein Verbruggen.
