Peter Sagan will ride for Tinkoff-Saxo in 2015, according to a report in La Gazzetta dello Sport.
A story in the Italian newspaper says that when Sagan’s contract with current team Cannondale ends after this season, he will switch allegiances to Tinkoff, owned by Russian billionaire Oleg Tinkov.
Tinkoff is outfitted with Specialized bicycles but Sagan’s reported move to the squad could mean Cannondale will supply the team, according to the story. That would cause a sponsor conflict for Alberto Contador, who rides for Tinkoff and is personally sponsored by Specialized. La Gazzetta dello Sport speculated that a termination agreement could be reached between the two parties.
If Sagan were to ride for Tinkoff, it would bolster the team’s presence in the classics. The team is mostly focused on stage racing at the moment.
News reports have also linked Sagan to Astana, the home of Vincenzo Nibali, and a new team that will be backed by Formula One driver Fernando Alonso starting next season.
