At the conclusion of the Vuelta a España and the GP de Montréal, the UCI released its updated WorldTour rankings Monday.
Philippe Gilbert retained the individual lead that he took after winning Friday’s GP de Québec.
Spain’s Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) picked up 38 points at the Vuelta and so climbed to fourth overall.
Bradley Wiggins, jumped from eighteenth to seventh with his third placed at Vuelta a España. He now has 289 points. Chris Froome, second at the Vuelta a España is now 25th with 157 points.
Leopard-Trek has been the long-term leader of the UCI WorldTour team ranking but Omega Pharma-Lotto now tops the ranking thanks to Gilbert’s success in Canada. The Belgian team has a total of 1,079 points, 61 more than Leopard-Trek. Team Sky climbed from fourth to third, with 986 points, after its strong podium showing at the Vuelta. BMC is fourth with 877 and HTC-Highroad is fifth with 780 points.
Spain still leads the nations ranking but Belgium has closed the gap to the top spot. Spain has 1,357 points, while Belgium is looming with 1,163 points. Italy is third with 1112 points. Australia slipped from second to fourth with 1082 points, while Great Britain climbed to fifth with 790 points.
Both the team and nation ranking look could change dramatically in the final races of the season as teams battle for points at the Tour of Beijing October 5-9 and then at the Giro di Lombardia, traditionally the final major race of the season on October 15.
