The organisers of cycling's three grand tours have formally asked the UCI to sanction a professional racing series entirely separate from the two-year-old ProTour in an effort to secure more autonomy over their respective events. The three major organizers - ASO in France, RCS in Italy and Unipublic for theVuelta a Espana- have been at loggerheads with the UCI since it introduced thePro Tour for the 2005 season.
