The Exergy Twenty12 team of two-time Olympic gold medalist Kristin Armstrong says that the American’s road and time trial bikes have turned up missing after the Eurobike show. According to a team release, Armstrong’s two bike boxes arrived empty to Boise, Idaho, on Tuesday.
“The bikes mean so much to me. My TT bike is a symbol of all the hard work that has been put in to this journey,” said Armstrong. “It is sad to think that somebody out there has taken this away from me and my family.”
Armstrong won gold for the second time in the Olympic time trial in London this year, successfully defending her title from the 2008 Games in Beijing. The Felt DA bike she rode in London was on display at the Eurobike show in Friedrichshafen, Germany, but did not make it home to Idaho.
According to her team, Armstrong’s two bikes were packaged and shipped via courier from Bremen, Germany, on September 7, making stops in Frankfurt and Atlanta en route to Boise. It is unclear at this time when the bikes went missing, but the team says an investigation into what it says is a theft is underway.
Anyone with information on the missing bikes is urged to contact Exergy Twenty12 manager Nicola Cranmer via email.
