Thomas Löfkvist (IAM Cycling) will miss the Ardennes classics and Tour du Romandie due to injuries suffered in a run-in with an automobile, the Swiss team announced on Thursday.
Löfkvist suffered an open fracture to his left index finger when a motorist opened a car door in front of him while the Swedish 10th-year professional was riding in a bike line near his home in Zurich.
He would have served as a leader for the Swiss team in the hilly one-day races, but will miss the Amstel Gold Race, Flèche Wallonne, and Liège–Bastogne–Liège, as well as the Tour du Romandie.
According to the team, Löfkvist has been examined by physicians at the Geneva University Hospital in Switzerland and will undergo surgery to repair the fracture Thursday evening. He is expected to miss six weeks.
