Armstrong met with USADA in December — USA Today
This news surrounding Lance Armstrong’s possible doping admission continues to flow quickly and heavily, as USA Today reports today that the banned former world champion met with U.S. Anti-Doping Agency CEO Travis Tygart in December. The topic: a road map back to competition for Armstrong, should he confess to doping during his career.
Christine Brennan writes that an unnamed source “would not disclose the location of the meeting, which took place at the behest of Armstrong and his advisers, who belligerently rebuffed a similar meeting in June as part of USADA’s investigation into the disgraced former seven-time Tour de France winner.”
Brennan quotes the source as saying, “They (Armstrong and his advisers) were kind of beating around the bush trying to get the temperature of the situation. They were very general discussions.”
Armstrong is scheduled to appear in a 90-minute program on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network on January 17. It is widely believed, as The New York Times reported last week, that Armstrong is considering a public confession.
When contacted by VeloNews over the weekend, USADA officials would not comment on the report.
