Australians Luke Roberts and Trent Lowe will join Robbie McEwen and Svein Tuft on the would-be ProTour team being assembled by Pegasus Sports, the organization announced on Thursday.

“We are super-excited to have signed Luke and Trent,” said Pegasus Sports CEO Chris White. “They are key to our plans to build a leading ProTour team. They will contribute enormously to the team, both in terms of its uniquely Australian flavor and their abilities as bike riders.

“Luke and Trent are seasoned professionals, and they each bring something special to the team and will play key roles — Trent as a GC rider and Luke as an all-rounder.”

The team will look to Roberts as a winning option in one-day races and weeklong stage races, and the experienced track racer will also lend McEwen a hand in the sprints, said White.

Lowe, meanwhile, is “a stage-race winner waiting to break out,” said White. “We believe we can provide the environment which will allow this to happen and for Trent to reach his potential.”

Roberts called his signing with the Aussie squad “the opportunity of a lifetime and the crowning of my career.”

“I’m also really excited at the prospect of working with Robbie McEwen in the sprint finishes – it’s going to be fun,” he said.

Added Lowe: “It’s been a dream of mine to ride for an Australian professional cycling team in Europe, so I just can’t wait to get rolling with the team.”
