Gravel is hitting the big screen (or at least the TV screen). A new hour-long documentary about the Belgian Waffle Ride gravel race in Southern California, called “This Is Not a Gravel Race,” is debuting on OutsideTV, showcasing the race in all its brutally tough glory.

The hour-long documentary follows the action at the 10th anniversary of BWR California, the largest gravel event ever, with over 4,000 participants. At 135 miles long, covering every kind of terrain imaginable, from gravel to rocks, sand, single track and water crossings, this race is quite a challenge (and that’s before you factor in the 112-degree July heat). The film highlights the arduous trails to victory for winners Peter Stetina and Katerina Nash, while also highlighting the journey of an interesting group of participants, including BMX star, Andrew Jackson, cycling newbie and former D1 soccer standout, IZ King, professional road cycling champion, Whitney Allison, and PR and marketing maven, Alain Mazer.

The film can be viewed on Outside TV, which is distributed on many platforms, including YouTube TV, Amazon Channels, Comcast XFINITY, Samsung TV Plus, Sling TV, The Roku Channel and VIZIO. It can also be viewed on Outside’s cycling titles including VeloNews. You can view it starting Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 9:30 p.m. EST.

If you want to get in on the action yourself, registration has opened for all four of the 2022 Belgian Waffle Rides and the Quadrupel Crown of Gravel series. All registrants will also receive a free year of the Outside Cycling Bundle valued at $49.99 which includes access to VeloNews membership content and six issues of Peloton magazine in print and digital.

In addition to the film, BWR and Outside have agreed to an exclusive partnership providing BWR access to Outside’s BikeReg platform and FinisherPix services. Ride registrants will use the BikeReg platform to sign-up for the BWR events, track their status, and receive discounted photo packages through FinisherPix.
