Forget the Eurobike Awards, We Chose the Actual Best Stuff of the 2025 Show

The Eurobike awards often raise questions about why some products receive the coveted prize, so we thought we'd offer our own awards for 2025. The Shoddy Eurobike Award!

Eurobike isn’t just a dealer show where contracts are signed and big-money handshakes are struck while brands showcase their latest and greatest goodies. It’s also place so big that media folk, such as myself, manage to walk the halls so much in search of new kit that destroying a pair of footwear is highly possible.

Then, there is the other corner of Eurobike Hall 8, where a large stage hosts the annual Eurobike Awards. It’s here that those who are inclined to a bit of show and tell assemble on the evening of the first day. It’s here that brands hope to get a bit of a nod from their peers. Products from across the cycling and e-mobility spectrum are vying for a coveted pink sticker stating that they’ve got the “goods” for 2025.

You may not be aware of Fasten; I sure wasn’t. However, the one-man band has developed a system that allows the rotor and cassette to remain attached to the frame, while only the wheel drops out. I’ve got questions, but I also liked the founder’s enthusiasm.

I’ve attended the show more times than I care to remember now, and every year, I make an effort to check out who’s been nominated and who eventually takes home the rosettes from each category. And every year, many of the products that win have me puzzled.

Yes, there are innovative items from time to time, but for the most part, it’s equipment that feels gimmicky or very niche. I’m not going to single out any one product or brand, but I advise you to Google the winners from years past and try to see if they’ve made a dent in how things have developed in the sport.

I’ve wanted to check out Seka for a while now, and they didn’t disappoint. Everything about what they do appears to be high-end, yet without an outrageous price tag. It’s pricey, but not heart-attack expensive.

So, with that in mind, I thought for 2025 there needs to be an alternative award, an award that has a single judge, jury and executioner, an award that doesn’t just have the tech in the running for a gold medal, but an award for that lucky brand or person who wins it can look back in years to come and single it out as a moment in their business life that was a turning point (probably not though). So here we have it, the inaugural Shoddy Eurobike Awards!

Miche wheels, now owned by Wilier had a bike as always a few stunning paint jobs on display, and they had the wheels to match this time.

That’s right, this year, I decided to offer up my own trophies (there in the post, honestly, maybe, probably not). Instead of going down the usual route of choosing the tech that’ll change the face of cycling (hopefully), I instead came up with a raft of really meaningful categories; I wanted to highlight not just the great tech but the people, passion, and stories that put a smile on my face, which is what cycling should do.

So get your tux on, walk the red carpet, hit that play button and delve into the ShOscars of Eurobike!
