American Tejay Van Garderen slotted in second behind his HTC-Columbia teammate Andre Greipel at Sunday’s Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey prologue.

Van Garderen, 22, covered the 5.8-kilometer course in Instanbul in 8:46, six seconds slower than Greipel and three seconds ahead of Poland’s Maciej Bodnar (Liquigas-Doimo).

Monday’s stage is a 178km from Kusadasi to Turtugreis and is likely to end in a field sprint. The tour finishes on April 18.
