Americans one-two in junior women's worlds road race
Chloe Dygert and Emma White earn gold and silver in the junior women's road race, a repeat of their performances in the time trial.

Americans Chloe Dygert and Emma White pulled off a repeat of their dominant time trial performance and went one-two in the junior women’s world road race championships Friday. Dygert rode home with a solo victory to match her rainbow jersey earned in the TT on Monday. White, 1:23 behind, took silver, five seconds ahead of Poland’s Agnieszka Skalniak.
“When I was working with the group of four, we were taking pulls. I felt strong, wasn’t really tired,” Dygert said of the decisive breakaway, which went on the second lap. “I knew I had the legs. When I went off, it wasn’t really the plan, but I looked back and saw a gap and was able to keep it.

Dygert attacked a break of four, which also included White, on the last lap of the 64.8km race. “[White] did an amazing job. She was on all the attacks. I’m amazed and so glad she’s on my team,” Dygert added.

“I think having road worlds here in Richmond will help show the world we’re serious about it, and we’re competitive, and we want it just as much as them,” White said. “She [Dygert] proved this week that no one is stronger. As her teammate I was honored to see her go up the road. I had to control myself and also what was going on behind me and make sure no one brought it up. We’re just really proud.”
It was the first of the road race events at UCI World Championships in Richmond, Virginia, which will culminate with the elite women’s road race Saturday and the elite men’s competition on Sunday.
