Specialized debuted its new Shiv 3 time trial bike last week at the Giro d’Italia. Saxo Bank brings the bike to the Tour of California, where world champion Fabian Cancellara used it for the first time Saturday in the Los Angeles time trial.
According to Specialized global marketing manager Nic Sims, the redesigned Shiv loses the nose cone and downtube wings outlawed this spring by the UCI.
The most significant changes in the frame are the traditionally mounted front brake, a new stem and the addition of a lip on the backside of the fork that Sims claims improves aerodynamics.
