ISTANBUL, Turkey (AFP) — Theo Bos (Rabobank) won the opening stage of the Presidential Tour of Turkey Sunday after eight laps of a 16.9km circuit in the heart of the Alanya resort area.

The former world track champion topped Matthew Goss (GreenEdge) and Daniele Colli (Team Type 1), who finished second and third, respectively.

Bos, who left the 2009 Tour of Turkey in disgrace after an incident in the final-stage sprint in which he forced overall leader Daryl Impey into a barrier, will wear the overall leader’s jersey in Monday’s second stage.
