Degenkolb wins stage 1 of Tour Mediterraneen

MONTAGNAC, France (AFP) — John Degenkolb won stage 1 of the Tour Méditerranéen Thursday in Montagnac, France. Degenkolb (Giant-Shimano) won the 223-kilometer leg from Argelès-sur-Mer in a bunch sprint over Danilo Napolitano (Wanty-Groupe Gobert) and Sonny Colbrelli (Bardiani-CSF).

Degenkolb leads the general classification after the first of five days of racing. The Tour Méditerranéen continues Friday with the 170km second stage, from Cadolive to Rousset.
