Geox-TMC has named its “long list” for the upcoming Giro d’Italia, putting 12 riders on a list that will be whittled down to nine for the season’s first grand tour.

With the team missing out on an invitation to the Tour de France, it’s no surprise that it’s putting its heavy hitters in its Giro line-up. Leading the list are 2009 winner Denis Menchov and 2008 Tour de France champion Carlos Sastre.

Sastre has already said that he would ride to support Menchov, who will enter the Giro as one of the five-star favorites for overall victory.

Other riders who are all but sure to ride include former U23 world champion Fabio Duarte, Spanish workhorse Juan Jose Cobo and Colombian all-rounder Mauricio Ardila.
