Team RadioShack has hired Nélson Oliveira, the four-time Portugese time trial champion, for the 2011 season, the team announced Tuesday.
The team also announced that it has hired Irishman Philip Deignan, whose transfer to the U.S. team was announced Monday by his former team, Cervelo TestTeam.
“Nélson and Philip have a lot of potential and just as important, they fit in with our group of experienced riders,” said team manager Johan Bruyneel. “I always like to work with all-round riders, capable of performing well in stage races. Philip has already proved he has the skills necessary to finish grand tours. I look forward to working with him. That Nélson has talent is obvious when you look at his results of the last years.
“We continue to work on the future of Team RadioShack. Ivan Rovny and Jason McCartney both re-signed for another year and we are still exploring the cycling market.”
Oliveira, 21, took the silver medal at the U23 European road championships, the bronze medal at the European time trial championships and was fourth in last month’s U23 time trial world championship. He rode for Xacobeo Galicia in 2010.
Deignan, 27, won a stage of the 2009 Vuelta a Espana and finished ninth overall. He rode four years for Team Ag2R and two years for Cervélo TestTeam.
