Michael Marckx created the original Belgian Waffle Ride in 2011 as a Belgian-style spring classic in San Diego County, with dirt sections standing in for the cobbled sectors of many European races. Fast forward to today, and Belgian Waffle Ride has four events, with North Carolina, Utah, and Kansas joining the original in California.
