BEIJING (AFP) — China's chances of producing a road cycling star of the future would increase significantly if the sport was given much needed backing from sports leaders, according to a top UCI official.

"Even with our RadioShack sponsors on course in Beijing, I focused on the things I could control, like swallowing fear and riding in good position on the last lap."
