Levi Leipheimer said Wednesday that he was never in danger of being dropped when Sergio Henao put in a race shattering attack on the final climb of the Tour of Utah last weekend. In an interview with KPCW community radio in Park City, Utah, Leipheimer (RadioShack) described the uneasy truce he made with Henao (Gobernacion de Antioquia) on the road to Snowbird resort on Sunday.

SALT LAKE CITY (VN) — Over the years the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah has developed a well-earned reputation for difficulty and even proclaims itself “America’s Toughest Stage Race.”
Tour of Utah organizers on Thursday released the preliminary list of riders for the August event. Headlining the roster are defending champion Levi Leipheimer (RadioShack), George Hincapie (BMC Racing), Tom Danielson (Garmin-Cervélo), Tejay Van Garderen (HTC-Highroad) and National Racing Calendar leader Francisco Mancebo (Realcyclist.com).
Tour of Utah organizers on Tuesday will announce a new look route for the sixth edition of the race they deem “America’s toughest,” and that slogan has never been more appropriate.
When the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah took the gradual step onto the UCI calendar this year, organizers hoped to land a big-time field for the race’s seventh edition. They did just that and announced Wednesday that among the squads lining up August 9 would be the six of the world’s top-15 teams.

The Tour of Utah evolved from a local stage race into a national event in 2004. The race didn't happen in 2007, but came back strong in 2008 and 2009.
Utah lost one of its biggest ambassadors for the sport of cycling Saturday when Terry McGinnis, the executive director of the Tour of Utah, passed away after a long battle with cancer. McGinnis was 46. "He was a fixture in the Utah cycling community," Burke Swindlehurst (Team Bissell), from Salt Lake City, said. "Everybody knew him and I don't think I've ever heard a disparaging word said about him. He was just a friend to cycling and a friend to every one." McGinnis was also instrumental in turning the Tour of Utah into one of the biggest bicycle races in the country.
