What to know
One of the most successful squads at last year’s Tour with four stage wins, Mitchelton-Scott will focus on the GC this year. This year’s Tour de France will be won and lost in the mountains, and Mitchelton-Scott has two of the best pure climbers in the world with Adam Yates and Esteban Chavez. On paper, both men have the skills to thrive at this year’s Tour. Chavez is looking to regain his GC confidence after several years of illness. Yates is still looking for the podium at the Tour de France, which has historically suited him better than the other grand tours.
Our take
It’s time for Adam Yates to prove himself at the Tour de France after years of sniffing the podium. This year looks like the best opportunity for him, given the lack of flat individual time trials. Right before the Tour, Yates announced that he will be racing for Ineos Grenadiers in 2021 and 2022.
