Riders flocked from all over California and Nevada this weekend to participate in the first race held in Northern California this year of the Western Collegiate Cycling Conference. The race was hosted by the reigning national champions, the University of California-Davis. With two new tough courses, racers were tested to the limit in climbing, handling, and tactical savvy. Although full race results have yet to be posted, UC Davis is poised to be atop the leader boards after a dominating performance over a resurgent Cal Poly and UCLA squads.
The second week of the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference season continued at the Stevens Duck Country circuit race Sunday, hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology. By the end of the day, Boston University had won the overall team omnium for the weekend, with MIT in second place and the University of Pennsylvania close behind in third.
With three regular season races completed and three more before conference championships, racers in the SECCC came to the geographic center of the conference to compete in the Georgia Tech Cycling Classic in Newnan, Georgia, this weekend.

The third weekend of racing in the Atlantic Coast Cycling Conference took riders to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland. Saturday’s criterium is by far the most technically challenging course of the season. The course, which has been used for over ten years, is made famous by its downhill, 180-degree, “widow maker turn.” It is also made difficult by cold winds that whip off the Chesapeake Bay. But if you do get a moment’s reprieve, it is a beautiful loop around Hospital Point and the Naval Academy Cemetery.
