The UCI ProTour Council (UPTC) has refused to authorize the Trophy of the Grand Tours proposed by the organizers of the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a España. In a press release issued Thursday, the council said the proposal by tour organizers ASO, RCS and Unipublic "does not respect the principles of road-cycling reform as introduced by the UCI," takes a counter-productive financial approach and demonstrates "a lack of responsibility towards cycling as a whole." A court in the east German town of Greiz on Friday fined a teenage female motorist for a crash that left Australian cyclist Amy Gillett dead and five of her teammates injured. The 19-year-old woman was fined 1440 euros and had her driving license revoked for eight months for causing the crash in July.
